Growing up in Tandale, the largest slum in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Kelvin Mkude faced significant challenges due to his albinism. In a society rife with stigma, discrimination, and harmful superstitions, Kelvin had to fight for his place. As a child, he took up karate to learn self-defense and protect himself from potential harm.

Kelvin's parents, determined to give him a better future, ensured he received an education. Their dedication paid off when Kelvin earned a bachelor's degree in aquaculture and aquatic science, likely making him the first aquaculture officer with albinism in Tanzania.

Motivated by his experiences, Kelvin founded a non-governmental organization called Winning Nature in Charisma. This organization provides platforms for people with disabilities in Tanzania to develop and showcase their skills and talents.

Kelvin believes that individuals with disabilities possess untapped potential, innovative ideas, and solutions that have yet to be recognized. It takes just one person to believe in them, as Kelvin's parents did for him.

In its first two years, Winning Nature in Charisma has positively impacted over one hundred individuals with disabilities in Tanzania. The organization aims to triple this number by the end of its 2025 strategic plan.
